WAVV FM 101.1, under Alpine Broadcasting Corp., is an independent and locally-owned radio station.
WAVV FM-101.1 plays Easy Listening favorites with a contemporary flavor. WAVV is just the right blend of today's most popular soft vocals and bright instrumentals combined with a touch of light jazz. The WAVV playlist is made up of over four thousand active musical selections.
In order to better match the market, and to insure that the most appropriate music is chosen, WAVV employs a modern approach of computerized cataloguing. This allows WAVV to more carefully choose the proper balance of music. WAVV is programmed to appeal to the musical taste of the affluent adult audience of Southwest Florida.
WAVV-FM broadcasts with 100,000 watts of power in stereo…the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission.
WAVV's tower rises over 100 stories to a height of 1,035 feet. This tower height, combined with 100,000 watts of power, enables WAVV to blanket all of Southwest Florida. The outer reaches of WAVV's signal may be heard from Tampa Bay to Miami to Key West and beyond.
WAVV IS NO LONGER STREAMING
Update March 2014 - WAVV has not been streaming our signal over the internet for more than 7 months. You may see old links on 3rd party apps like Tune-In, Live 365, Streema, etc., or on digital equipment like Sonos, Roku, etc, however they will not work.
It is with regret that we inform our many online listeners that as of August 15, 2013 WAVV-101.1 ended our station's on-line stream signal. Our contract with our streaming provider ended on that date, and they have opted not to renew our contract due to the significant expense for artist royalties.
For your information; any company that plays copyrighted music over the internet is required to pay the artists and performers for the right to play their material. These payments are collected and distributed to the artists by an organization called SoundExchange. The fees are tallied through a formula that’s based upon the total number of listeners, and how long they listen. For WAVV, this expense is in addition to what the station already pays to the other copyright regulators BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC, for the rights to play this music via our regular over-the-air broadcast.
Due to the immense popularity of WAVV’s exclusive and proprietory music format, the cost of these royalties has escalated to a point that the expense has become unsustainable for both our streaming provider and the station. We have found no other provider that is able to accommodate us in an acceptable manner. Thus, we have no choice but to discontinue our online streaming.
WAVV will, of course, continue to provide our format of Modern Easy Favorites, via our 100,000-watt broadcast signal, serving our Southwest Florida listening area at 101.1 FM.
We prefer to get your comments in writing, however if you must call the station, a recorded comment line will be provided.
